Pitch Perfect 2 - film review

Did the world really need another a cappella college comedy? Even Universal knows the answer, and so it just gives us the same one again, almost note for note. The upside of Pitch Perfect 2 is that what worked the first time round mostly still does. Anna Kendrick is the sourpuss star of a competitive singing group, still conflicted over whether she should devote herself to a career in music production, and Rebel Wilson still steals most scenes as the gloriously uninhibited Fat Amy.

But a problem looms in the shape of an all-conquering group of Teutonic tunesmiths led by a Valkyrie diva. The battles get heated, the putdowns ever colder, but beneath all the gross-out humour and un-PC putdowns this is wholesome fun built on hugging and learning. Expect another encore.
