American Buffalo, Wyndham's Theatre, London

The casting for this new staging of David Mamet's seminal 1977 play couldn't get much starrier and yet the assembled big names - Damian Lewis, John Goodman and Tom Sturridge - are playing low-life crooks fighting in a junk shop over a small-time heist.

It's a play about masculinity, machismo, competition and the seamy underside of the American Dream. Goodman plays Donny, a hustler, who has summoned Bobby (Sturridge) to help him with the planning of a robbery. But their meeting is interrupted by the arrival of Teach (Lewis) who maintains that he would be better suited to the job. Daniel Evans directs the increasingly tense exchanges that follow.
