Martin Gore

MG

(Mute)

When not crafting arena-filling electro-pop as Depeche Mode's main songwriter, Martin Gore diverts himself by recording purely electronic music, freed from the need to provide hooks for Dave Gahan to bawl doom-laden messages of woe.

2012's VCMG was an excellent techno album devised with fellow synthpop veteran, Erasure's Vince Clarke; now comes a solo effort, MG. Less charged than his Clarke collaboration, it is a set of nicely textured instrumentals that draw on the legacy of Kraftwerk and Vangelis, evoked with connoisseurial expertise by Gore.
