Dumb and Dumber To - DVD review

Directed by Bobby Farrelly, Peter Farrelly, 2014

Universal

Watching Dumb and Dumber To is like finding a 20-year-old whoopee cushion down the back of a sofa: good for a quick blast of nostalgia but hardly two hours of solid entertainment.

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprise their roles with admirable gusto, mugging and pratfalling as if their lives (not just their pay cheques) depended on it. But the Farrelly brothers' script is lazy.

An early episode in which Harry realises that the Asian couple who raised him may not be his biological parents is straight out of The Jerk; a later one that sees him mistaken for an eminent doctor is pure See No Evil, Hear No Evil.

The Farrellys only really find the funny bone when they return to toilet humour - the kind that saw them out-gross most rivals back in the 1990s.
