The Very Best

Makes a King

(Moshi Moshi)

The Very Best's previous albums, 2009's Warm Heart of Africa and 2012's MTMTMK, were an imaginative meeting of musical cultures, originating from a chance encounter between Malawian singer Esau Mwamwaya and Swedish DJ Johan Hugo in a Hackney junk shop.

The duo's new album Makes a King, recorded in Malawi, tilts the emphasis towards Africa. Mwamwaya's catchy singsong vocals give the songs an anthem-like quality, but the results are a little one-paced: they lack the sense of adventure of the two earlier albums.
