Florian Fricke/Popol Vuh

Kailash

(Soul Jazz)

Kailash is a handsome tribute to one of the leading lights in German underground rock of the late 1960s and 1970s, Popol Vuh's Florian Fricke, who died in 2001.

Calm minimalist piano compositions convey space and reflection; their latent mysticism is amplified by an accompanying soundtrack detailing a pilgrimage to a sacred Buddhist mountain.

Pipes, ululations and droning synthesisers combine to create an atmospheric, very hippyish exercise in ethno-ambient music.
