House of Lords offers public access to Peers' Dining Room

Voters will have a chance to sample Westminster fare thanks to a decision by the Lords refreshment committee to open the Peers' Dining Room to the public during the dissolution period.

On weekdays from April 14 to May 8, a £35, three-course lunch menu will be offered at the first public sittings in the Pugin-wallpapered space. The Members' Dining Room in the House of Commons is also open for select public bookings this month.

The £35 menu features dishes such as pressed game terrine with baby leek and dandelion salad, or elderflower summer pudding with clotted cream and lavender shortbread. Peers, meanwhile, enjoy deals such as the "express" lunch, which offers two courses and a glass of wine for £16.

The refreshment committee "hopes that the trial will generate revenue and ensure the facilities of the House are put to best use when the House is not sitting for this extended period". More than half the tables have already been reserved.
